Attendance

Dear Parent/ Carer,

Firstly, I would to thank all parents who ensure their child/children attend school regularly and congratulations to the 145 Pupils who have maintained 100% attendance since September 2016. We also have 170 pupils whose attendance is above the school’s expectation of 96%, well done to them too. This is a fantastic achievement and we would hope that this standard continues through the rest of the school year. However, we have 138 pupils who fall below the school’s expectations of 96% and, as you can see from the table below, good attendance plays an important role in your child’s future.

Attendance during this school  year Days Absent Approximate number of weeks absent Lessons missed
96% 8 2 32
90% 19 4 76
85% 29 6 116
80% 38 8 152
75% 48 10 192
70% 57 11.5 228
65% 67 13.5 268

The table above shows that low attendance really does add up and this loss of learning time will ultimately affect their grades at GCSE level in the future.

To ensure your child’s attendance does not drop below the school’s expectations, please do not keep pupils at home for minor ailments. Medical appointments should take place out of school hours ideally and holidays are not to be taken during term time.

If your child is off for any reason please contact the school office before 9am to advise us with the reason for the absence.

Thank you for your support in this matter and if you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Tattersall

Attendance Officer
