Year 8 Options

Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome to the start of the Key Stage 4 Study Programme process.

Learning and Teaching are paramount to your child’s achievement.  The appropriate curriculum must be delivered through subjects that children have a history of success in and that encourages and allows children to think and learn.

By working together, the programmes of study delivered between the school, staff, children and parents are an important part of our curriculum that will offer all pupils opportunities and experiences.  This will enable children to achieve the success their potential allows, contributing to an ‘Achievement Agenda’ that spreads throughout the school.

The options process is an integral part of this.  We can help children choose the areas of study they were successful in at Key Stage 2 & 3, and then they have every chance of:

  • Being successful in Key Stage 4
  • Working in an environment where other children are successful
  • Leaving school with results and qualifications personalised to them

Each pupil in Year 8 will receive a guided options letter and their study programme booklet on Monday 8th January.  The study programme booklet will also be available on our website from Monday.

The Year 8 Options Evening on 11th January is from 6.00pm until 7.00pm. There will be a short presentation sharing information at 6pm. Then there will be time where you can discuss what is covered within each subject with a representative from the department or seek general advice from staff at the school.

The Key Stage 4 Study Programme Booklet has more detailed information on each subject delivered at the school.  There is also a Year 8 option blocks form that should be completed and returned by 2nd February 2018. This will then allow us to build the timetable and confirm subjects with your child.

If you have any concerns about the above or wish to discuss your child’s progress at school with me, then please do not hesitate to contact me via the school office.

Yours sincerely,

Mike Bennett
