The Ogden Trust – ‘Making Physics Matter’
Welcome from Wendy Cox, National Primary Science Consultant for The Ogden Trust.
I am delighted that Ridgeway Academy is the official UK base for The Ogden Trust’s Primary Science Programme. We are a charitable trust, promoting the teaching and learning of physics. Having the experience of post 16 physics provision, we are now looking to the future – developing effective approaches to the teaching of physical science in KS1/ KS2 and KS3. I am based in the school, from where I lead the National programme, supported by a host of Ogden Teacher Fellows (specialist science teachers).
We will be publishing our new physics magazine ‘Phizzi News’ before the end of the Autumn term, look out for it on The Ogden Trust website www.ogdentrust.com, or a text from the school will alert you to the release date.
We hope that your child enjoys science at Ridgeway, particularly the physical sciences! They have a wide range of opportunities available to them, to increase their science capital; lessons in the dedicated science lab – the ‘Phiz Lab’, the chance to become a member of the new Ridgeway Science Committee, where their ideas will be listened to and acted upon, visits to science destinations, taking part in physics outside (with the help of a racing kart!) and of course, you as parents can support your child’s interest in science, by taking part in our family learning nights, where ‘real’ scientists can provide inspiration and raise aspirations.
If you are interested in our work, you are welcome to browse the website and we would be delighted if anything you read inspires you in some way.
